I'm driving down 980 in Oakland to pick up Annie from work. Suddenly, the car next to me honks a few times. I look over, and this little (7-yr-old?) African American girl is joke picking her nose and waving while her mom honks the car horn.
I realized I was intensely picking my nose.
It was so joyfully awkward that I laughed all the way to Annie's work.
Too bad I wasn't mortified enough to actually stop picking my nose while I drive,

ReplyDelete2. Do you call white folks European American? What's with the differentation?
Nope. In this society, you can call white folks all sorts of names. A white guy has to be careful, though. I couldn't just call her black, and I felt that I wanted the reader to have an accurate picture in their head.
DeleteI HATE the term African American...for so many reasons [perhaps I shall explain one day]. And especially because one might want to call me that but technically it's not even true.
